Yazhong-Jiangxi ±800 kV UHV DC Line Operational:Linking Sichuan and Jiangxi with Green Power,Serving Emission Goals and Spurring Development
State Grid held an event to launch the operation of the Yazhong-Jiangxi ±800kV UHV DC Project on June 21.
At the event,Xin Bao'an announced,“the Yazhong-Jiangxi ±800 kV UHV DC project is now completed and put into operation by State Grid!” Green power generated by the Yajiang River is transmitted over a long distance. The project marks another major channel for sending clean energy from China's west to the east.It starts from the Yazhong Converter Station in Yanyuan County,Sichuan Province to the Nanchang Converter Station in Dongxiang District,Fuzhou City,Jiangxi Province, covering a total length of 1,696km.It is expected to speed up China's energy transition and the process towards China's carbon peak and neutrality goals. From Sichuan to central China, annually it will transmit 36TWh of clean electricity,an equivalent of replacing 16.2 million tons of raw coal, reducing 26.6 million tons of emissions, and effectively enable renewables to complement each other and to be integrated and utilized by a large scale. The project also enables Sichuan and Jiangxi provinces to complement each other for more balanced development. It transmits and facilitates the consumption of clean energy generated by cascade hydropower stations in the middle reaches of the Yalong River, and transmits power generated by the first set of generating units at the Baihetan Hydropower Station.Meanwhile,it also addresses the power shortage during summer peaks in Jiangxi Province among other places, and promotes quality local development. The project further demonstrates China's technological strength in UHV DC transmission. It has solved major problems such as external insulation for DC equipment in high altitude areas and key technological challenges for DC equipment in areas with high seismic hazard, and consolidated China's strengths in UHV DC transmission technology through another model project.
